He rejected a hasty agreement on a fourth round of UN sanctions against Iran: "The efforts intended for negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue still need some time and patience."
But the question is in the final analysis how can the approach of Chinese to Iran's nuclear program and the possibility of putting it more embargoes be appraised?
In recent years China has tried to rule out sanctions against Iran sometimes accompanied by Russia. Like the United States, Russia, Britain and France the country has veto power on the Security Council. But China holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in January and is able to halt or reduce international efforts for imposing more sanctions against Iran.
From Chinese position, Iran has a significant status: it's a key provider of energy and plays an important role in the political equations of the Middle East. Iran has also a lucrative market for Chinese products and sharers its anti-imperialistic attitudes with that country, although such an attitude from the Chinese side has not barred them to boost their ties with the West.
Obviously in the current month when China holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council it won't have a long-time opportunity to completely block new punitive steps taken against Iran. But the more significant issue is that the Chinese officials support Iran depending on the circumstances and if such practice threats their interest, they won't continue that.
Some analysts are making efforts to warn Iranian officials about the forthcoming tougher sanctions which may persuade China and Russia to join Western powers on the plan. So in the meantime some arguments away from the logic of politics and diplomacy including on the impact of Chinese presidency over UN Security Council won't make sense.
