Spokesman reluctant to elaborate on German diplomats

Politics - At his weekly press conference, the spokesman of Iran's Foreign Ministry, Ramin Mehmanparast did not respond to a question raised by Khabar Online correspondent about two German diplomats arrested December 27 in connection with protests in Tehran.

"After the protests on December 27, the day of Ashura several individuals were arrested and investigation on their cases is underway by judiciary officials," he simply answered about the issue.

"Some of them under the diplomatic covers attended the protests and their identifications are to be found," he added.

However he did not respond to the question of our correspondent on whether two German diplomats detained in connection with December 27 events have been summoned to their country or not.

"We have discussed about them." Mehmanparast replied without giving further details.

Earlier Iran's state-run radio had quoted an intelligence official as saying German diplomats had been involved in organizing the riots, but did not elaborate on the issue.

Earlier German Foreign Ministry spokesman, Andreas Peschke had said he was unaware of any German diplomats having been detained in Iran rejecting any Berlin involvement in the protests.
