Shell prefers Qatar to Iran for gas investment plan
Economy - While many Iranian liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects are waiting for an investor, Royal Dutch Shell announced that it is to invest 21 billion dollars on Qatar's gas-to-liquids (GTL) and LNG projects.
Qatar has already gained almost 80 billion dollars a year from LNG production in North Dome or South Pars field, but Iran has failed to make even 1 rial profit from producing gas in the same region. It is being said that through boosting production in South Pars field, Qatar's gas revenues will raise by 140 million dollars this year.
It is almost 2 years that Shell demands Iranian oil and gas officials more time to consider investment on the country's LNG projects, but in the meantime has not affirmed whether it is seriously interested to invest on the projects or not.
