The EU lower court was expected to lift sanctions against Bank Melli PLC, this official added

TEHRAN (ISNA)-An Iranian bank official called the EU lower court's ruling which confirmed asset freeze of Iran's London-based Bank Melli PLC an unjust and political measure.

The bank owns an independent legal entity in London and works as an independent financial company which was officially registered in Britain in 2002, the official said.

The reasoning raised against the London-based bank that only relied on the relation between this financial institute and Iran's bank Melli is baseless, the informed source added.

The EU lower court was expected to lift sanctions against Bank Melli PLC, this official added.

According to the official the EU lower court issued a ruling on July 9 rejecting Bank Melli PLC appeals for annulling EU ministerial council's approval on freezing its asset.

The 23-page decree declined to accept Bank Melli PLC's legal reasoning including owning an independent legal entity in Britain and its non-interference in financing Iran's nuclear work, the official said.

The ruling also said the EU ministerial council's decree as valid, the official added.
