As reported by Khabar Online correspondent, speaking in the religious city of Mashhad adjacent to the shrine of Imam Reza (AS), Ayatollah Khamanei maintained that the last Iranian year of 1389 was literally the year of double efforts and double work.
The leader extolled the resistance of Iran against the West and went on to say: "They tired to press Iran by imposing more sanctions from the beginning of 1389 believing that they will be able to bring the Islamic Republic to its knees, but now they have realized their mistake."
During past years the Islamic Republic of Iran has been targeted by the West powers and United Nations Security Council sanctions mostly for its nuclear activities.
The fourth and most recent round of the United Nations sanctions against Iran was passed on June 9 over what the West claims is a nuclear program for producing weapons. The Islamic Republic resolutely denies the charges, reiterating that the program is meant for civilian purposes and insists it will keep on enriching uranium.
In the other part of his speech, Ayatollah Khamanei stressed that double efforts and double work was made last year in scientific arena and in producing knowledge.
Referring to subsidy reform plan, he asserted: "It was a difficult plan to put into practice and was expected to be implemented even by the earlier governments of the Islamic Republic. The impact of the big economic project will be revealed steadily. Through reforming subsidy system in the country, the subsidies are distributed more fairly which is a long step toward materializing social justice."
"An evidence of making double efforts is an increase of non-oil exports. I had already said many years ago that I wish we could manage the country without the need for selling even one drop of oil," Ayatollah Khamanei added.
