"The US request and insistence to hold negotiations with Iran showed the Islamic Republic of Iran's growing power in the region and the world," Parliament's presiding board member Mohammad Dehqan told FNA on Saturday.
During the Geneva talks on October 1 between Iran and the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany (G5+1), US envoy William Burns asked for bilateral talks with Iranian chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili who gave Burns a positive response. This is while the US had for years kept away from bilateral talks with Iran.
"The fact also shows that the Islamic Republic of Iran persists in its positions on foreign policy issues even under the most difficult conditions," Dehqan added.
He also pointed out that the grandeur and honorable behavior shown by the Islamic Republic officials during the trend of the Geneva talks indicates Iran's upper hand and success in the negotiations and on the international scene.
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili sat with the representatives of the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany in comprehensive talks in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 1.
Following two sessions of talks on Thursday, the representatives of Iran and the six world powers agreed to meet again before the end of October. A meeting at the level of deputy heads is also planned before the two sides meet by the end of this month.
