The issue of severing ties with Britain in national security and foreign policy commission of Iranian Parliament (Majlis) was first raised by those MPs who back the government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

As Khabar Online correspondent reported, two members of this commission, Mahmoud Ahmadi Biqash and Mohammad Karami Raad proposed the Parliament to consider the issue. However in the last Iranian year (began on March 21, 2009) before the late disputed presidential election, Ahmadi Biqash had called for the necessity of downgrading the relations with UK to the level of chargé d'affaires. But Kazem Jalali the spokesman of national security and foreign policy commission of the Parliament announced that it was the personal view of Biqash and not that of the commission.

Yet this time the two MPs have referred to a report given by one of the deputies of Intelligence Ministry to emphasize on the need for cutting ties with Britain. As they claimed traces of UK's meddling in Iran's post-election unrest are visible.

This week the efforts on severing relations with Britain were not restricted to foreign policy commission but were made on the floor of the Majlis where the issue was raised twice yesterday. First in a lecturer by Taheri, a MP from the northern city of Gorgan and second it was notified by Ali Mohammad Bozorgvari, one of the other MPs who supports the administration

In his address to the colleagues at national security and foreign policy commission, Taheri asked: "Why are you hesitant in cutting relations with Britain?"
