Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani sent a letter to UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova condemning Israel's cultural heritage offenses in al-Quds (East Jerusalem) asking for an immediate halt on destroying the works belonging to both Muslims and Christians.

As Khabar Online correspondent reports, Larijani has also sent messages to the parliament speakers of Indonesia, Namibia, Uganda demanding immediate actions against the recent move of the Zionist regime.

Referring to the provocative transgressions of Israel in Palestinian occupied lands under the faking pretext of possessing Islamic monuments and reestablishing a devastated synagogue near al-Aqsa Mosque, Iran's parliament Speaker writes: "Palestine occupiers are to destroy the Islamic identity of al-Quds."

The other part of his letter reads: "Embracing several sacred Islamic and Christian places al-Quds is associated to the consciousness of hundreds of millions Muslims and Christians across the world. International cultural organizations including UNESCO must be sensitive to such actions and give a firm response to the transgressors.

In his letter, Larijani stresses on the crucial responsibility of UNESCO in safeguarding the works embodying Islamic civilization and culture in Palestine to works which comprise a part of humans' common heritage.

"Two other documented Islamic monuments of Palestine, including the Ebrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil and the Bilal bin Rabah Mosque in Bait al-Lahm (Bethleham) are among the places recently appropriated by the Zionist regime as its cultural heritage," Larijani stated.

At the same time it is reported that Israel is to build hundreds of new settlement units in the occupied al-Quds region deliberately adding to the tensions dominating over the region.
