With his new film, ‘Certified Copy’ (Copie Conforme), Iranian acclaimed filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami will compete for Palm d’Or at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival which runs from May 12 to 23.

The Competition Section of the festival also features notable films including 'Another Year', directed by Mike Leigh from U.K.; 'Outrage' by Takeshi Kitano from Japan; 'Burnt by the Sun 2' by Nikita Mikhalkov, from Germany, France and Russia; and 'Fair Game' by Doug Liman from U.S.

As usual, Cannes Film Festival also features other sections:  Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition and Special Screenings.

As it was expected 'Certified Copy' is among the 16 films participating at the Competition Section. Co-produced by France, Italy and Iran the film unfolds the story of a middle-aged English writer on a tour to Italy for his new book. He meets a French woman who owns a gallery in Florence and becomes romantically involved with her.

"Certified Copy' sounds different from the earlier films of Kiarostami. It is also the first work which has been made outside Iran. Here the French celebrity, Juliet Binoche who acted in his previous film 'Shirin' stars as the French woman and British opera singer William Shimell plays the role of the writer.

Kiarostami won the coveted Palm d'Or of Cannes Film Festival for his 'Taste of Cherry' in 1997.
