A member of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Expediency Council believes the President's Office chief of staff Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei won't be nominated for the 11th presidential election, even if he does, he won't be qualified by the Guardian Council.

Speaking to Khabar Online Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi Kermani the former representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) asserted: "The religious society is not optimistic about Mr. Mashaei but he is particularly favored by Mr. [Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad."

Mashaei's controversial statements in various past occasions on politics and religious issues, for example on the possibility of a friendly relation between people of Iran and Israel have sparked the anger of top Islamic Republic authorities.

After the disputed presidential election was held in June 2009 and led to the reinstatement of Ahmadinejad, he appointed Mashaei as the first Vice-President. But several officials, above them Ayatollah Khamenei opposed the choice, forcing Ahmadinejad to replace Mashaei by Mohammad Reza Rahimi.

Delivering a lecture, he commented on the mission of the prophet Noah (S), saying that despite living so long, he was not able to implement justice for his nation. His remarks were criticized by clerics and religious experts.

In the other parts of his remarks, Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani evaluated the actions taken by the 9th Iranian government and said along with gaining successes, the administration has shown its weak points notably in terms of "cultural issues".

Comparing the measures adopted by the reformist and the Principalist governments of the Islamic Republic in 2000s, he stated: "In the presidential terms of Mr. [Mohammad] Khatami several controversies and disputes were arose which somehow went to the extreme."

Unlike some hard-line Principalists, the member of the Assembly of Experts avoids using the term "betrayal" in describing the practice of the reformist government of the Islamic Republic: "The reform administration created many problems, despite that I don't define its action as betrayal."

Former representative of the Leader in IRGC referred to the notices given by the Revolutionary Guards to the administration of Mohammad Khatami: "At that time we were notifying cultural problems to the government to lead them be more adherent to Islamic culture."
