President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asked the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Agency, Ali Akbar Salehi today to start the production of 20 percent enriched uranium. But what are the first steps to be taken toward the plan?

According to Khabar Online correspondent, Salehi had said at the end of the January: "The installation and arrangement of our centrifuge machines are in a way that we won't enrich uranium to levels higher than 5 percent, although we have the right to enrich uranium to 100 percent."

Answering a question on whether Iran is able technically to enrich uranium to 20 percent or not, Iran's Atomic Energy Agency chief had declared: "We are potentially able to enrich uranium to 20 percent, but we need to make minor changes. At first we should announce the agenda to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), make necessary modifications to the production line and then begin to enrich uranium. However our priority is to buy fuel."

The officials of Iran's Atomic Energy Agency have said earlier that they want high purity 20 percent uranium enrichment to be used by Tehran's research reactor.

In the meantime, the United States has put members of the UN Security Council under pressure to impose tougher sanctions against Iran, but has faced the resistance of Russia and particularly China.
