The head of a special committee in Iranian Parliament (Majlis) tasked with considering economic reform plan asked: "After many years of studying and teaching economy in universities, why can't I be taken as economist, but President Ahmadinejad who hasn't studied economy falsely regards himself as economist?"

Speaking to Khabar Online last night, Qolam Reza Mesbahi Moqaddam reminded Ahmadinejad that his students has been employed by the President as economy advisers.

On March 19 a controversial interview with Ahmadinejad held by state TV when he blasted the lawmakers who had criticized his method of implementing subsidy reform plan without naming them. He said: "Although they have studied economy, they are not economists at all."

Ahmadinejad himself has received a PhD in transportation engineering and planning from Iran University of Science and Technology.

Responding to his claim, Mesbahi Moqaddam accompanied by two other lawmakers Elias Naderan and Ahmad Tavakoli issued a statement invited him to a TV debate on subsidy reform plan, but received no answer.

Ahmadinejad insists that the implementation of subsidy reform plan as ratified by the Parliament wouldn't be practical. However his statement has provoked several responses of the lawmakers and experts who commented on his idea.

He maintains the execution of the plan based on the 200 trillion rials (20 billion dollars) revenue passed by the Parliament to be recovered from raising the prices of energy carriers would be ineffective. He hopes instead to receive 400 trillion rials for putting the huge project into practice.

Referring to irreparable consequences of implementing subsidy reform plan based on the 400 trillion rials revenue, Mesbahi Moqaddam stated: "I predict the government's proposal will not be ratified by the Parliament, but if it happens, I will disclaim responsibility of the approval from myself."
