Basically, the moderate groups who are still loyal to the original mottos offered and advocated by the late Imam Khomeini in the early stages of the Islamic Revolution, welcome and support me

You are an independent candidate. If you win the elections, what kind of a government will you form: a coalition government or one which is exclusive to only one party?

  • - An independent one. When I say it will not be a single-partisan government, I don't mean that I am not going to use people from different political groups and parties in it. I have already offered an example. During the war time, the government consisted of people from different political trends and they were able to work with each other very well.
  • In some ways, your performance resembles that of the present president, Mr. Ahmahdinejad. Do you admit that?
  • We must look at the mottos and the performances in overall. I am a supporter of rule of law and believe there should be nothing people are not informed about. I believe that in order to help the deprived and the vulnerable in the society - which is one the mottos we both share - we should strength the national economy, encourage production and help improve work in factories and farms. Yes! We are so close to each other in our mottos but we are far apart in practice.
  • Don't you think that you will not be able to win the favorable votes of silent and undecided ones in the elections?
  • I came up with a decision and then acted on it. I said I am in the scene to have a vivid, open and unambiguous dialogue with people. Now it is for the people to decide whether they like my way of doing the dialogue or not. They are free to welcome it or reject it.
  • Aren't you worried about losing a portion of your potential voters? That some of those who had decided on Mr. Mohammad Khatami will not vote in your favor?
  • I think the mottos I am offering will attract all kinds of people because they focus on our national interests and the future of the country and is in fact a combination of the good things both reformists and the principalists advocate.
  • Are you concerned with the latter trend?
  • No. I am not. Based on what I am witnessing now, no.
  • Mr. Mousavi! Do you think you will have the whole number of the votes which were to go to Mr. Khatami?
  • I can't say that exactly but I think those who were considering voting for Mr. Khatami are quite likely to support me in the elections and vote in my favor. I am quite optimistic about it.
  • Many think you don't enjoy that huge support on the part of the reformists you were originally thought to have.
  • That is not true. My reformist friends are quite active in supporting me.
  • Is that possible that Mr. Karroubi leaves the scene for you?
  • I am not considering such things at all.
  • If you lose the elections, then are you going to remain in the scene or you are going to assume silence once more?
  • I am determined to win and I am not talking about defeat.
  • What priniciplalist trends are supporting you?
  • Basically, the moderate groups who are still loyal to the original mottos offered and advocated by the late Imam Khomeini in the early stages of the Islamic Revolution. They welcome me and support me. People who really love the Revolution and are thinking for its betterment. I am investing on this. I think an atmosphere of never-ending counter-attacks will not be to the benefit of the Islamic Republic system.
