However through recourse to violence some forces committed acts against the nation's unity.
Invited by Khabar Online on Saturday, he opined about the recent interview of the protest leader, Mir Hossein Mousavi who called the government initiatives for staging the rally of February 11 as "engineered": "In the current tense climate several issues can be raised. Regarding the latest comments of Mr. Mousavi, it's better to ask him in person who can better elaborate on his view," Salamati said.
In a statement issued Saturday, Mousavi accused the government of wasting public possessions in a massive show of force trying to silence the opposition in what is essentially a celebration.
Referring to the rally of February 11, he stated: "People from various layers of Iranian society attended the rally. All reformist parties had earlier made statements encouraging people to participate at the event."
The political activist described the people's presence at the rally as extensive: "It was not necessary for the government to create an intense security ambiance. Why some attacked Mahdi Karroubi [former parliament speaker, current opposition leader] and targeted the car of Mohammad Khatami [former reformist president]?
Salamati pointed out that Karroubi and Khatami belong to this nation: "When such figures come to the scene, people are encouraged and moved to join the national events and feel that they are united."
He went on to say that those who claim they are to unite Iranian nation should have welcomed the participation of figures including moderate Khatami at the rally.
On what Mousavi, the former presidential candidate called the engineered organization of the rally, the reformist activist said: "I cannot definitely comment on the issue. Mr. Mousavi has stated his own view on the condition."
"But I would say why those who raid top reformists figures are immune of investigation and prosecution. People should know about that. As a political activist, Mousavi has to expose the reality. The problem lies within the groups which committed these acts. Those who are behind such aggressions must be accountable," Salamati added.
In the other part of his statements Mousavi has maintained that the administration spent excessive amounts by mobilizing buses and then gathering people across the country. Responding to a question about his declaration Salamati said: "The people may had come from the other parts of the country or not. Perhaps Mr. Mousavi has more information about that, or by this he means security forces, police and so on had been gathered there. I'm not to argue over this issue because I don't have access to the related information and can't suggest an idea."
