At a news conference held Wednesday on the sidelines of an open Majlis session, Ali Asqar Zare'ei added: "The first session of Majlis-government joint task force did not conclude since the discussions prolonged and were postponed to the next session slated for tomorrow or Saturday."
"A number of lawmakers including Hassan Abu Torabi-Fard, Mohammad Reza Bahonar respectively first and second deputy Majlis speakers, Jamshid Ansari, Ahmad Tavakoli and me from the Majlis; and Shamseddin Hosseini the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mir Tajjedini the vice president in Majlis affairs, also Farzin the speaker of the government's special committee of economic reform attended the session," he said.
Zare'ei who sits for Tehran in the Parliament explained: "Yesterday the lawmakers raised their questions and referred to the ambiguities within the government plan. In their own turn the administration representatives provided information helping their demands to become more transparent. It was felt that Majlis should make amendments to subsidy reform plan and assist the government."
"The lawmakers have outlined an initiative to amend the plan and are to propose it on Sunday after these sessions reached to a result, on the condition that the government would not a submit a new bill to the Majlis. As well as making changes to the revenue saved from implementing subsidy cut plan, the issue of recovering the taxes on some product was raised as they will be deposited into the account of subsidy fund instead of the general budget," he asserted.
Zare'ei further said: "The government favors to deposit the taxes into the account of subsidy fund. The majority of lawmakers attending joint task force do agree with the proposal, otherwise we will have to raise the prices to acquire the defined taxes."
The Parliament worries that if the prices of energy carriers jumpin a limited course of time, it will drive up inflation uncontrollably. The statesmen headed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had earlier called on lawmakers to revise their rejection of government proposal to cut energy and food subsidies by 400 trillion rials. If not, they won't put the huge national project into practice. Their disapproval was expressed as the Guardian Council had earlier signed off the budget ratified by parliament.
