Former head coach of the Portuguese national soccer team, Carlos Queiroz is reportedly to lead Iran's national squad.

According to Khabar Online correspondent, although Ali Kafashian the head of Iran's Football Federation (IFF) and Abbas Torabian, the director of national teams committee at IFF maintain that negotiations with Queiroz for managing Iranian team have not been finalized, the reliable sources say Portuguese coach has signed up with IFF.

They add that the he will arrive to Iran on March 31 and at a press conference to be held on April 3 will be officially introduced to local media. Earlier in a letter Queiroz courteously rejected the proposal for managing Iran's national soccer team after he had visited the country. Torabian claims that Portuguese coach has apologized Kafashian for that letter.

At a news conference held previously, Kafashian in his turn said Quiroz did not accept IFF's proposal because he was under the influence of his wife who hadn't approved of living in Iran. But responding to a question if it's true, how he would be able to work in Iran, kafashian suggested: "Quiroz does not pander to his wife's every whim anymore!"

The 57 years old Queiroz is regarded as the discoverer of the Portuguese "Golden Generation" in the early 1990s, which include outstanding international footballers, Luís Figo and Rui Costa.

He won precious awards as a coach in junior levels, and he has been fairly successful at senior and club levels, mainly as Alex Ferguson's assistant manager.

In July 2008 he was named the head coach of the Portugal's national team and led his team to the second round of the 2010 World Cup, losing to eventual champion Spain.

He has not coached since being fired by Portugal last year after disappointing results in qualifiers for the 2012 European Championship.
