It was passed by Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution on the late Tuesday.
Majidi, a permanent member of Iran's Academy of Arts, an entity which is headed by Mir-Hossein Mousavi, said: "I believe that art and culture should not be tainted by politics. The status of Iranian academies particularly Iran's Academy of Arts is higher than being influenced by political issues. The members of academies are the selected elites of society, each of them are among the most eminent figures of art in the country enjoying a significant popular status. Through its recent decision, Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution is hardly hitting the position of art and culture in the country, as in the near future we are to witness the upsetting consequences of such rectification which will cause an irreparable damage.
On the issues raised at the last session held by the members of Iran's Academy of Arts , he noted: "Like all other friends, I made a number of suggestions at the meeting which we must decide on them. If it's necessary, the secretary of Arts Academy will publish them."
Majidi affirmed that the members of IAA may response to such enactment: "One must wait and see how the members of the Academy will react. However they are trustworthy figures and the society will not remain indifferent to their responses."
Addressing the members of Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution, he said: "These officials must know that the artists are not to change their attitudes by issued circulars. We are not indebted to anyone. We are not political figures. For a society, culture is like breathing. Perhaps it's possible to prohibit people from getting out of their homes, but you are not allowed to tell them, don't breath! Unfortunately the structure of power is in a way that it may work against itself."
