But it turned to chaos due to the interference of three counter-revolutionary groups dwelling outside the country.
Titled "1979, a Revolution Which Shuddered the World" the event was held with the official permission of UCL. It was to highlight the ideas of opposition Green Movement in Iran as well. But the supporters of three Iranian counter-revolutionary groups Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO), communists and monarchists took advantage of the session and disrupted it shortly after the beginning.
The program was supposed to entail Mohammad Marandi, PhD a Tehran University instructor and baker of Iranian government. As the virtual guest of the seminar Marandi was to make a speech at a video conference. Moreover UCL had mobilized special security guards for the seminar.
On February 11 at 6:30 p.m. after the recitation of the holy Qur'an, the host of the program Ms Ridley began to deliver her lecture, but a few minutes later some groups among the attendants rose and began to wave the banners of Mojahedin Khalq Organization, communist and monarchist Iranian groups residing outside the country.
They chanted slogans against the Islamic Republic and interrupted the seminar. The guards were not able to control the disruptors who kept on shouting and insulting the figures of Iran's establishment outside the seminar hall.
At the same time, the advocates of Green Movement began to chant slogans backing the former Iranian Prime Minister and current opposition leader, Mir Hossein Mousavi. However their demonstration was overwhelmed by the slogans shouted by the three counter-revolutionary groups. Even so, a number of websites which had promoted the event regarded the disorder as a victory for Green Movement supporters outside Iran.
