Khabaronline: Ministry of health confirmed amount of Nitrate is over standard and suppose to pregnant and infant not drink water of piping system. You think this is highly serious?
Dr. Marandi: I and my family still drinking this type of water that comes from piping to house
Khabaronline: you mean you deny amount of Nitrate in water?
Dr. Marandi: No. some metals as galena, arsenic and nitrate are existing in Tehran Water. Of course is not highly serious that could alarm it. Main problem is digging wells to get water from underground because of increasing population in Tehran. Some areas in Tehran can't use dam water and have to use well water.
Khabaronline: Is it true that well water is passing through pipes to homes and people drinking it. Water piping system is the same for all Tehranian? So getting danger to use all waters and this is something that ministry warned about it.
Dr. Marandi: Tehran water drinking is supplying by water of rivers dams and underground water that all have less nitrate. Recently few wells added as well. In some of these wells seen high nitrate. These types of waters added to water piping system. Experts says leak of city sewer system and getting water from 200 wells and adding to water piping system for drinking purpose increase amount of nitrate. I must say water of Tehran is got nitrate but not on danger level.
Khabaronline: You have stated you and your family using this type of water as well as Tehranian. You not worry despite of knowing of nitrate in water?
Dr. Marandi: yes. I am worrying. The problem is we always cannot using mineral water because is expensive. We have to give warning to ministry of health and ministry of water and power (Niroo) that Tehran water will not to drink anymore and future is not too far!
Khabaronline: How evaluate Tehran water today?
Dr. Marandi: still we able to drink it. But is danger for people who using well water in some Tehran area.
Khabaronline: Ministry of health confirmed Tehran water is not good for pregnant and kids. That mean is it good for the rest of people?
Dr. Marandi: water containing nitrate is got negative effect on kid's circulatory system. So healthy of kids getting danger. Scientific studies don't show danger on adults. Certainly pregnant will have problem if they using nitrate. Unfortunately with heating water we cannot remove nitrate. Of course with this way we able to remove microbes, viruses and fungi.
Khabaronline: what is exactly effect of this kind of metals on human body in long term?
Dr. Marandi: Diseases such as cancer and anemia.
Khabaronline: and this will be arising with Tehran piping system?
Dr. Marandi: somewhat. Next to the dam water we seeing industries and definitely we will more pollution in few years. So we not able to ignore it again.
