The head of Iran's Hand-woven Carpet Exporters Trade Union announced that new efforts are being made to gain a more share of international markets, including Chinese market for Iranian rugs.

In recent months some Iranian economic activists have not remained silent and voiced their concern over the import of Chinese carpets to Iran's market. They believe that the arrival of Chinese products to local market should be managed in a way not to damage the ancient Iranian art-industry. In this trend, the local authorities should make their utmost effort to avoid such a problem, as only just referred to by the head of Iran's Hand-woven Carpet Exporters Trade Union, Akbar Harischian with a new literature: "China is to be a market for Iranian carpets."

Stressing that Iran should develop its exports to foreign markets, Harischian said: "Regarding the fierce competition faced by all rivals in the international export milieu, we must seek new and strategic methods of marketing for Iranian carpets and focus more on all the stages of production. from providing basic materials to weaving carpets and presenting them to the international markets."

He pointed out that the new initiatives are underway to target markets importing hand-woven rugs: "Nowadays, many countries have begun to produce carpet. Through reducing the production costs, boosting the quality of our hand-woven rugs and introducing new elegant designs, we will be able to have the last word in producing carpets in the world."

The head of Iran's Hand-woven Carpet Exporters Trade Union also underlines that the cost of supplying primary materials for production and announced: "we have concluded a marketing campaign in south Korea and Japan and by means of a successful marketing are to target China as a potential bazaar for the products of Iranian parts of carpet weaving."

"One of the obstacles in the way of exporting our carpets is a traditional method of marketing adopted by Iranian traders  which if continues will lead the foreign competitors to become more dominated over the market and limit the share of Iran in the worldwide carpet export," Harischian declared.

Based on the figures, last year China was the second biggest trade partner of the Islamic Republic after the European Union which received 14.37 percent of non-oil Iranian exports. The non-oil exports of Iran to China were increased by 47 percent last year and their worth reached to 2,669 million dollars.
