Searching for a new head coach, Iran's Football Federation has initiated talks with former managers of France’s national football team, Raymond Domenech and Roger Lemerre, although Portuguese Carlos Queiroz is reportedly a possible candidate for the job as well.

According to Khabar Online correspondent, Abbas Torabian, the head of national teams committee at Iran's Football Federation said during a phone call in '90', a popular Iranian football TV program: "As reported by Iranian news websites, we have discussed with two very experienced coaches who can greatly help us." He didn't refer to the names and nationality of the candidates.

The head of Iran's Football Federation, Ali Kafashian also avoided to name the coaches. But based on the news about the latest meeting held between the members of the federation's presiding board and Ali Sa'eedlou, Vice President and the head of National Sports Organization, Kafashian referred to Domenech and Lemerre as the main candidates for managing Iran's national football team.

Although France with Domenech performed so miserably in its group of 2010 World Cup, but earlier in the World Cup 2006 under his management France reached to the final and only lost to Italy in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Lemerre took over as the national coach in 1998, winning Euro 2000 in Netherlands-Belgium. He was named the new head coach of Morocco national football team in May 2008 and took charge on July 1, but was fired on July 9, 2009, for disappointing results.

Owing to a good connection between international relations committee of Iran's Football Federation and a French company which organized the friendly matches of Iran's football team with Brazil and Russia, Domenech who had managed both France under-23 and national football team would be possibly appointed as new Iran's head coach.

The other promising candidate whose name is heard in Iran's Football Federation and a deal to sign with him would not be unlikely is former Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz. He has not coached since being fired by Portugal last year after disappointing results in qualifiers for the 2012 European Championship. The former Real Madrid coach and Manchester United assistant led Portugal to the second round of the 2010 World Cup, losing to eventual champion Spain.
