On Saturday, Iranian news agencies and daily papers reported that Queiroz is to visit Iran almost immediately. Rejecting their reports, Abbas Torabian, the head of national teams committee at Iran's Football Federation said he is not supposed to travel to Iran. Perhaps Torabian has attempted to make the job easier for Mr. Queiroz, since it's being said that Torabian himself is heading to United Arab Emirates to finalize Iran's Football Federation's agreement with the Portuguese coach.
There are not so much ambiguities about the contract, but Torabian avoids to say that it is confirmed and Queiroz will manage Iran's national team: "Look, an article in the contract notifies that if we indicate to the name of the manager before the deal is concluded, he will be authorized to nullify the agreement. I swear to God that it was his request and we accepted. So don't ask us to name the new coach for now," he said.
"Let me give you some more information. Earlier we send the first draft of our agreement to our nominee and from our side all problems have been resolved. It means that the football federation has made its choice and the deal has just to be signed," Torabian added.
Based on the reports, the agreement has been arranged for three years but some articles of that are rather ambiguous for "the future coach of Iran's national team". But head of national teams committee at Iran's Football Federation gives no detail about them. He simply points out that the prime issue which is agreement over the payment has been resolved.
"We are sure that there would be no dispute over the financial issues, because our proposed wages are so close to that of our candidate," Torabian maintained.
The amount of the suggested salary has yet to be disclosed, but in financial terms Iran's National Sports Organization had given a free hand to sign a deal with its selected soccer coach. The Federation is authorized to pay up to 1,400,000 US dollars to the new manager.
Torabian went on to say: "Currently we are in contact with the coach's lawyer and the ambiguities have been almost removed. From our side, no problem is left. We will introduce the new coach in a little while and will hold a press conference for him.
Born in Nampula, Mozambique, the 57 years old Queiroz is regarded as the discoverer of the Portuguese "Golden Generation" in the early 1990s, which include outstanding international footballers, Luís Figo and Rui Costa.
He won precious awards as a coach in junior levels, and he has been fairly successful at senior and club levels, mainly as Alex Ferguson's assistant manager.
His work at Manchester United gained the attention of Real Madrid and the top prestigious club in 2003 to lead several giants including Player of the Year award winners Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and Luís Figo.
Being sacked in 2004, he returned to the United at Old Trafford again as the assistant of the great Ferguson. In July 2008 he was named the head coach of the Portugal's national team and led his team to the second round of the 2010 World Cup, losing to eventual champion Spain.
He has not coached since being fired by Portugal last year after disappointing results in qualifiers for the 2012 European Championship.
