Iranian heavyweight weightlifter Saeid Ali-Hossein received a lifetime ban after a second doping offence, International Weightlifting Federation said on Saturday.

The world record-holder Ali-Hosseini failed a doping test and is now going to face a lifetime ban since this is his second violation. “This is a major setback in my life. I could have won the medals, but now unfortunately my dreams will never come true. In my opinion it is a conspiracy and I swear I never used illegal performance enhancement drugs,” Ali-Hosseini said. The +105-kg category lifter set a record at the Asian Weightlifting Championship in South Korea in December 2008 by lifting 206-kg in the snatch, 245-kg in the clean and jerk and 451-kg in total. Other members of the Iranian team, Anoush Armak, Rashid Sharifi, and Omid Naiij Kenari failed last year in their doping tests as well.
