Five months after the 10th presidential poll in Iran, debates are still underway on the consequences of post-election unrests on the society and families.

As many officials and sociologists opine, these events put arguable impacts on the atmosphere of the Iranian society which are subject to numerous discussions and considerations through many years. After the MPs and some officials warned about the increasing growth of distrust within the society during last months, recently Zanganeh, the head of National Youth Organization in Tehran province announced that during the first 6 months of Iranian calendar year 1388 (began on March 21, 2009) the figures of divorce has increased 21 percent. He has complained about the serious repercussions of the post-election turmoil. 

"During the first six months of this year, the rate of divorce has unprecedentedly raised. The statistics reveal 21 percent increase, while the marriage has dropped 3.5 percent. Several reasons including post-election events are involved which should be considered by the experts," he said. 

Zanganeh declared that he has accessed to transparent figures indicating that the families comprise the majority of who were distressed by the crisis. He asked the officials to take measures easing the psychological damages on people, "Unfortunately this issue has been ignored as we can look and realize that not only we have not advanced to our objectives, but we have regressed. In the meantime, the families were subjected to the most sufferings." 

On the other hand, the head of Iran's Consultation Association, Shokouh Navabinejad announced that according to the figures in the first five months 410,000 marriages were registered in comparison with 52,000 divorces. 

A member of social committee of Iranian Majlis (parliament), Hadi Moqaddasi spoke on the issue to Khabar: "Obviously economic prosperity and social security are achieved through stability and a peaceful atmosphere. But post-election circumstances caused many problems and doubts for Iranian people. For example, local and foreign entrepreneurs and investors have become undecided and such attitude has influenced the economic situation of the country." 

"For the same reason, many young and dynamic people of the country could not find a job for themselves and it played a role in lowering the economic activities of Iranian society. It led some couples to believe that they can not live with each other anymore," Moqaddasi added.
