Speaking to Khabar Online, Ali Asqar Zare'ei expressed his view on an appropriate method for confronting what called "the deviation current": "The offenses made by the deviation current must be probed based on a legal procedure. They must be faced realistically without spreading rumors and negative propagation.
According to the Principalists, the deviation current is led by the controversial Ahmadinejad's top adviser and his right-hand man Esfandiar Rahim-Mashaei who has been accused of attempting to reduce the pivotal role of jurisprudents (Foqaha) in the political scene of the Islamic Republic of Iran through insisting on the nationalist strain of Iranian culture and history.
Zare'ei who sits for Tehran in the Majlis (Parliament) went on to explain what caused the immediate reaction of all Principalists to deviants and why they had not responded to reports on the issue in the past:
"The cases of corruption had been also found in the earlier governments even more than the current one. But in the case of the deviant current, the financial corruption has been entangled with a deviation from the creed of the Islamic Republic and Islamic system has already shown absolute sensitivity to the issue of belief."
Referring to the confrontation of the Islamic Republic's legislative bodies with deviationist moves, the lawmaker pointed out: "Of course I prefer the punishment meted out for offenses related to deviation from it creeds would be as harsh as those inflicted for economic corruption. Countering our beliefs is not something that the Islamic Republic system could bear."
On the efforts made by the deviant current to win more seats for the next round of parliamentary election (scheduled to be held on May 2012) and whether it enjoys advocacy in the public opinion of Iranian people or not, he said: "I believe due to what happened during the recent months particularly the performance of Ahmadinejad's inner circle and their statements, their status among the people has been considerably downgraded and in the upcoming Majlis election, their chance would not be that much high."
"The reason is that our people are fully aware of the affairs and it's not that you can do everything with money. As a matter of fact the influence of media and information is much more effective.
Earlier the resignation of Iran's Minister of Intelligence Heydar Moslehi reportedly over a difference with Ahmadinejad sparked a row. The resignation was approved by Ahmadinejad, but the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who has the final say in all matters of the country reinstated Moslehi and asked him to carry out his duty.
Later Ahmadinejad whose critics say is under the influence of his chief of staff Mashaei, refused to attend the Cabinet meetings for two consecutive weeks. His absence was interpreted as a sign of his discontent about the reinstatement of Moslehi. In the Islamic Republic, the intelligence Ministry is responsible for probing the records of the possible candidates for the Majlis or presidential election.
In the meantime some lawmakers have suggested that their evidence is showing that Ahmadinejad's camp had directly paid money to almost 9 million Iranian voters immediately before the disputed presidential election of June 2009 which resulted to the reinstatement of Ahmadinejad.
On the response of the president who defended his aides facing with what he called the accusations against them, Zare'ei said: "I don't know about that, but I believe replacements should be found for some members of the Presidential Office. In fact as a result of having many governmental posts Mr. Mashaei has caused numerous problems. Obviously when someone takes up 16 or 17 posts, he will be prone to mistake, that's why I believe replacements in the office of the president and his aides are necessary for resolving the problem."
In his own turn, the President's chief of staff has lately asserted: "Negative propagations are being made against me which say all governmental affairs are controlled by Mashaei. These are targeted at inflicting a blow to Mashaei and in the next phase causing damage to the president."
