According to Iran's law, the Guardians Council, comprising six clerics selected by the supreme leader and six jurists proposed by the head of the judiciary, is responsible for supervising elections and verifying qualifications of candidates.
The 10th presidential election is scheduled to begin on June 12.
According to the announcement of the vetting body, the four applicants qualified to stand the upcoming presidential election are incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, former Prime Minister Mir Hossein Mousavi Khamene, ex-Parliament Speaker Mehdi Karroubi and Principlist politician and former commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Mohsen Rezai Mir-Qaed.
A total number of 476 people had registered their nomination for the upcoming presidential election.
The campaign will go on for 20 days, starting on the 1st of Khordad (May 22). The campaign would end 24 hours before the official starting of the voting scheduled on June 12.
The Iranian interior ministry has said the final results of the presidential election will be declared a day after the event, i.e. June 13.
Iranian officials have said that 46.2 million Iranians are eligible to vote.
The Guardians Council (GC) on Wednesday announced that from among scores of applicants, only four have qualified for the June 12 presidential election.
